Captive Customers in Cambodia

This was shot during my trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia in November 2017. I’m going to acknowledge that Cambodia is very poor, and is still in a phase of rebuilding after years of war. The population is very young, and tourism is one of their biggest revenue generating industries.

During a trip through the floating villages and flooded forests, my travel companion and I were greeted by a young woman selling drinks on the lake. She was extremely friendly. It was the beginning to a process to get you buy pencils and notebooks for children in a school – with a not so subtle attempt to offload more than you intended to purchase or extend your charity.

I will let the video make my point.
