Grocery shopping is one of those things that must be done in life, but is not the most enjoyable of chores. . When I discovered the ultimate online grocery store for Singaporean residents, I was all over it.
RedMart is an online grocery store that will deliver groceries to your doorstep for you. If you exceed $50 on your purchase, the delivery charge is waived. They even allow you choose a two-hour window between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m during which your groceries will be delivered.

I did wonder if the prices were going to be more expensive than a grocery store, so I put it to the test. I wandered through Fair Price, Sheng Siong and the Mustafa Centre with a list of 10 items – milk, butter, eggs, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, dal, rice and assorted spices – to compare what the difference in prices were. Not a whole lot of difference… though there were a few things in the spice department that RedMart did not carry.
I also factored in my time to go grocery shopping, the price of a cab ride home after having purchased a large volume of items, and trouble of carrying a bulky and heavy load of groceries back home. RedMart made perfect sense.
They have apps for both iOS and Android. They will deliver your first purchase of $30 or more for free (and purchases of over $50 thereafter). And if you sign up using this link, you’ll get a $10 credit to use on your next purchase (as will I!).

I feel that I must share one of my best customer experience stories about RedMart. In late May 2016, I had placed an order with RedMart for 15 items for an amount of $73.64. The delivery was made on schedule as expected. While accepting delivery, I was on a phone call, and couldn’t double-check that the items that I had ordered were what had been delivered, though I had noted that the delivery felt a lot heavier than what I would have expected.
About an hour later, I unpacked, and discovered that 5 of the items that amounted to $25.90 which I had ordered had not been delivered. I also appeared to have received someone else’s groceries, which consisted of two bottles of liquid dish-washing soap, 3 cans of tuna fish, a bottle of Vegemite (definitely Australians), a bottle of spaghetti sauce, two cans of diced tomatoes, 18 eggs, a bottle of pressed virgin coconut oil, a tetra-pack of coconut milk, a salad mix, two packets of noodles and two bottle of San Pellegrino mineral water. That’s about $65 to $70 worth of groceries.
I called up customer service and told them the story. They told me that they would try to locate the driver and see if they could make a delivery of my missing items in the next hour. 45 minutes later, I received a call back from the customer service representative, who apologised to me, and offered to refund me the $25.90 for the items that I had not received, which I happy to accept. I then proceeded to ask her what I ought to do with the items that I had received that I had not ordered. She asked me to itemise them over the phone. Having ascertained what the value of the delivery was, she told me that they would not return to collect those items and suggested that I keep them for my own use at no charge to me! I can’t complain about that at all!
