Pianos on the High Seas

I’ve been playing piano and socialising with a group of friends organised by Pianovers over the last several months.

We generally meet every Sunday evening and play piano for a few hours. It’s been a great way to connect and make new friends. A few weeks ago, on the 9th of June 2018, they organised the second instalment of a very unique event – Sail Away. They rented a catamaran and put 4 pianos on board – two on the top deck in the open air, and two on the lower deck. The catamaran would hold about 40 people – we have a party of about 25 on a 5 hours long cruise around Singapore. The evening was capped off with fireworks at Sentosa.

Playing a piano on board a boat has its challenges. It’s not too bad on the top deck outdoors. When indoors, the motion of the boat can get to you very quickly.

Nonetheless, this was a very enjoyable and unique experience, and one that I would definitely do in a heartbeat in the future.
