10 Great Places for Breakfast or Brunch in Singapore
Breakfast. It’s that most important meal of the day. Even more so on weekends when brunch becomes the centrepiece of socialising with old friends and new.
When I moved to Singapore, I didn’t know anyone, and yearned for a good weekend treat. I joined a few meet-up groups and ended up discovering a few places that I have been back to again, and again, and again.
Here are a few of my recommendations, in no particular order.
Alter Ego at Esplanade
01-13D, Esplanade Mall, 8 Raffles Avenue, 039802
I’ll start with one of my favourites. I first discovered Alter Ego with a group of friends back in 2018. We had plans to attend a Beautiful Sunday concert at Singapore’s Esplanade. One of my friends had organised this, and we were pleasantly surprised by both the ambience, the service, and the quality of food.
Alter Ego serves a bit of fusion and has different menus for both brunch, and dinner. I’ve been back several times thereafter, and continue to take both new friends and old back there.
Twenty Eight Café in Selegie
28 Wilkie Rd, #01-06, Singapore 228051
I love the feel of this place. The whitewashed walls, concrete floors, and steel and wooden furniture inside this lovely café with lots of natural light will put make you feel like you’ve stepped back into a place and time where the pace of life slows down just a little bit.
Their coffee is great! Their spam fries are to die for!
Curious Pallette in Selegie
64 Prinsep St, Singapore 188667
Curious Pallette has an incorrectly spelt name. Their food is good, their ambience is great, and their service is efficient. Set in the heart of Selegie in a side street, this café is buzzing with activity on weekends.
Bearded Bella in Tanjong Pagar
8 Craig Rd, Singapore 089668
Bearded Bella is a Melbourne themed cafe. It has both indoor and outdoor seating, and serves some of the best coffee in Singapore. The interior is tastefully done. When visiting, try to get one of the tables on the inside, directly underneath the transparent roof. Don’t just stop at the mains… leave some room for dessert too!
The Refinery in Jalan Besar
01, 115 King George’s Ave, 02, 208561
Tucked away in a lane on the edge of Jalan Besar, the Refinery became one of my favourite breakfast hangouts. Their decor is very industrial with plenty of natural light and high ceilings. Their walls are decorated with some beautiful yet minimalist artwork. Their coffee is great, and while their selection of food is not particularly broad, they make up for it in quality and taste!
Group Therapy Café at Duxton
49 Duxton Rd, #02-01, Singapore 089513
Yet another Melbourne themed restaurant, Group Therapy Café in Duxton is tucked away in one of the upper floors of the many shop houses that grace this area. Pancakes are their speciality, and what I will recommend when visiting here.
Kith at Millenia Walk
9 Raffles Blvd, #01-44/45, Singapore 039596
Kith is an all day breakfast place with options for other meals too. They are efficient, their food tastes great, as does their coffee. Kith has several outlets. My personal favourite is their outlet at Millenia Walk where you can choose to either sit inside the café, or in their gated area in the atrium. They have never disappointed me, and have always had a high standard of food!
Craftsmen Speciality Coffee at Siglap
2 First St, Siglap V, Singapore 458278
It’s a humble little coffee shop in strip mall that serves excellent coffee and has more than decent breakfast. Situated in the eastern part of Singapore, Craftsmen will keep you both caffeinated, and well fed!
Two Bakers in Jalan Besar
88 Horne Rd, Singapore 209083
Two Bakers is primarily a bakery – and a pretty good one at that! They specialise in cakes, and have a selection of them on display. But they’re more than just cakes. If you’re in the mood for a decent brunch, this place will not disappoint.
The Butcher’s Wife in Tanjong Pagar
19 Yong Siak St, Singapore 168650
Tanjong Pagar is spoilt for choice when it comes to coffee shops. The Butcher’s Wife is one of the many establishments that offer some great food and coffee. This is yet again one of those cafés which I discovered with friends, which I have gone back and visited repeatedly, and would go back to in a heartbeat!
